Portrait of Alex Douglas

Alex Douglas began his love of stunt gymnastics in 1977 when he found stunting more theatrical than artistic gymnastics. He began his stunt career with the Floating World Circus in Seattle, WA. He worked professional on stage in a Las Vegas style show called the “Music Hall Follies” in 1978 with his specialty act, “The Wacky Illwaco Brothers”.

In 1980 he moved to New Jersey and coached his first acrobatic team at Surgent’s Elite Gymnastics School. Not satisfied with his knowledge, he quit in 1985 and moved to New Orleans where he trained with Igor’s Acrogymnastics School and taught stunts with the Aurora Dance studio. He competed as an Elite in Mixed Pairs in the USSAF 1986 Nationals. Since Christ had come into his life, he quit the sport to pursue the knowledge of the Lord.

In 1990 Alex came to Dallas to study for the ministry at Christ for the Nations. He read Watchman Nee’s book, “The Spiritual Man” and realized that, although the Lord sent him to CFNI, He was not directing Alex into professional ministry. He met his wife, Linda, in 1992 and was married to her in January of 1993. He taught gymnastics at Trevino’s Gymnastics School in Lancaster where he started the first Acrobatic Team in Texas in 1997, taking this team to the USSA Nationals in Dayton, OH in 1998.

He helped other clubs start programs, and in 2004 he founded the non-profit organization, Texas Acro to promote and conduct competitions in Texas. He held the state director position and stepped down in 2007 after he had begun his own program at the Cedar Hill Rec Center, called Alexander’s School of Acrobatics, or the Stunt Gym.
